More than 3.3 million men and women have served our nation since September 11, 2001. Over 80 percent of them deployed to combat zones, and nearly half returned home carrying lasting physical or service-connected disabilities. Their service did not end when they came home—and neither should our commitment to them.

A Soldier’s Journey Home was born in the aftermath of 9/11, when a group of New York firefighters sought a meaningful way to give back after receiving overwhelming support from communities across the country. What began as disaster-relief construction projects soon evolved into something deeper and more lasting. Joined by firefighters from across the nation, they turned their skills, time, and dedication toward a single mission: building mortgage-free, specially adapted homes for veterans with disabilities.

Today, A Soldier’s Journey Home is a 100% volunteer-driven 501(c)(3) made up primarily of current and retired firefighters and veterans who understand service, sacrifice, and brotherhood firsthand. For more than a decade, our volunteers have committed themselves to ensuring that severely injured veterans are not only housed—but truly home.

Each year, volunteers from across the country come together to accomplish what many believe is impossible: building a fully accessible home in just two weeks. More than 100 volunteers arrive with tools in hand and hearts fully committed, many returning year after year because they believe in the mission and the veterans we serve.

To date, A Soldier’s Journey Home has built life-changing homes for disabled veterans in Georgia, Tennessee, Illinois, Texas, Ohio, Maine, Kentucky, North Carolina, and Louisiana. Each home represents more than walls and a roof—it represents freedom, dignity, independence, and a fresh start.

At A Soldier’s Journey Home, we don’t just build houses. We honor service. We restore independence. And we help heroes come home.
