At A Soldier’s Journey Home our mission is simple: with volunteers from all over the country, we galvanize the local community and build a specially-adapted, mortgage-free home for a veteran with disabilities to give back for the sacrifices they have made on our behalf and on behalf of our nation.
history:
In the wake of September 11, 2001, a number of firefighters from the FDNY were looking for ways to provide support to the country. They began volunteering at locations hard hit by disasters, like floods and tornadoes, rebuilding communities. After working with like-minded first responders in a number of locations, they formed A Soldier’s Journey Home in 2014. Since then, ASJH has built seven homes in Georgia, Tennessee, Illinois, Texas, Ohio, Maine, and Kentucky with current and retired firefighters, veterans and others from more than 22 states volunteering their time away from family and work to build a dream home for a worthy veteran recipient.
